
In dominant fashion, the capital town of Virac dominated the 2025 Palarong Panlalawigan held last week at the Catanduanes Athletic Complex, grabbing 58 gold medals, 28 silvers and 36 bronzes in regular sports.
According to the over-all results released by the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division Office, the champion ruled the secondary division with 39 golds but lost its bid to do the same in the elementary level by ending 2nd.
Instead, it was Caramoran athletes who shone in the spotlight with 32 golds, enabling them to finish second overall with 38 golds, 39 silvers and 25 bronzes.
Here’s the overall standings of the rest of the 11-delegation field: 3rd – Bato, with 34 golds. 39 silvers and 16 bronzes; 4th – San Miguel, with 26 golds, 21 silvers and 28 bronzes; 5th – Viga, with 22 golds, 21 silvers and 16 bronzes; 6th – Bagamanoc, with 20 golds, 23 silvers and 19 bronzes; 7th – Pandan, with 18 golds, 18 silvers and 31 bronzes; 8th – San Andres, with 18 golds, 17 silvers and 15 bronzes; 9th – Baras, with 18 golds, 15 silvers and 25 bronzes; 10th – Panganiban, with 7 golds, 11 silvers and 9 bronzes; and 11th – Gigmoto, with 1 silver medal and 2 bronzes.
Placing 3rd to 5th in the elementary level were Viga, Bato and San Miguel while in the secondary level, Caramoran took 2nd place, with Bato, San Miguel and Viga at 3rd to 5th places, respectively.
The Catanduanes SDO has yet to release the results in the individual and team competitions of the provincial meet, which will determine the composition of the island’s delegation to the Palarong Bicol 2025 set in Legazpi City this coming March 22 to 29.
DepEd Regional Director Gilbert Sadsad recently announced that the winning athletes in the 24 events of the Bicol meet will have training sessions in their respective school divisions from April 2 to April 30 in preparation for their participation in the Palarong Pambansa this May 20 to June 2 in Ilocos Norte.
