A 16-year-old student in San Miguel town was hospitalized after he was attacked by a bolo-wielding man believed to be mentally challenged.
The police report stated that Andrei Teope Bañas, 16, a resident of District 3, was on the street using his cellphone at about 7:30 AM of Nov. 29, 2024 when a man suddenly appeared armed with a bolo and without any apparent reason or provocation hacked the boy on the neck.
The victim managed to get away but later lost consciousness, with neighbors bringing him immediately to the Eastern Bicol Medical Center for treatment.
Responding personnel of the San Miguel police station arrested the suspect, Adolfo Torreja Taopa Jr., also known as Dondon, 45, in his residence at District 3 after a witness positively identified him.
He was apprised of his constitutional rights, underwent mandatory physical/medical examinations, booking procedures and is now under the custody of San Miguel MPS.
