Const’n worker dies in motorcycle crash

Less than a week after a motorcycle accident claimed the life of a gamefowl handler in Virac, a similar mishap led to the death of a construction worker in Bagamanoc.

The police report said that the victim, Chester John Albay de Guzman, 27, with live-in partner and one child, and a resident of barangay Bagatabao, was already unconscious at the side of the national road in barangay Quezon when found by personnel of the police and MDRRMO at 8:15 PM of July 1, 2024.

De Guzman was on his way home on board his motorcycle during the rainy night when he accidentally crashed into a group of five youths who were walking home from Quezon proper.

Investigators surmised he might have lost control of the vehicle and then hit the group of teeners, with 18-year-old Ronnie Perez and another boy sustaining injuries on the left leg and bruises also on the left leg, respectively.

The victim was rushed to the Viga district hospital for immediate treatment but he later succumbed to his injuries.

In the wake of the accident, acting chief of police Capt. Jerome Despuig called on motorists to always use a protective helmet when driving a motorcycle.
