Gigmoto police personnel arrested a 22-year-old abaca stripper last week after he was positively identified by witnesses as the suspect in the hacking death of an 86-year-old abaca stripper in barangay Sicmil.
Responding to a request for assistance from barangay captain Yolande Tolledo, the team led by PSMS Arnel Bacus proceeded to the scene where witnesses pointed to one Elvis Avila Pupa as the one responsible for the death of Domingo Temporosa Arcilla, a resident of barangay Mabini, Viga, during the incident that occurred at about 1 PM of Jan. 25, 2024.
Pupa reportedly admitted to the arresting officer that he hacked the victim during a heated altercation regarding their stripped abaca fiber or “hinag-utan.”
The team was able to recover the bolo used by the suspect in the crime as well as the bloodstained sando shirt and blue maong shorts worn by the suspect, along with the bloodied shirt of the old man.
