Only three towns not yet “drug-cleared”

Last week, the municipality of Baras was declared as “drug-cleared” by the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC).

This latest achievement of the Baras LGU, headed by Mayor Jose Paolo Teves III, comes on the heels of its winning the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) recently.

The declaration was made by the ROCBDC during its 1st BDCP Monthly Meeting and Deliberation held at Rakdell Inn last Jan. 19, 2024, with PDEA Regional Director and Chairman Edgar Jubay presiding.

Also present were Assistant Regional Director and BDCP Supervisor Aida Ferolino as well as committee members represented by PLtCol. Rogelyn Peratero from PNP Regional Office 5, Dr. Monrey Isaiah Mancilla from DOH and Amaline Colina from DILG.

The committee deliberated on the implementation of the Barangay Drug Clearing Program in the municipalities of Bombon, Camarines Sur and Baras, Catanduanes and Barangay Baybay of Caramoran, with their Anti-Drug Abuse Councils and core groups subjected to intense inquiry.

The two towns and Caramoran barangay were cleared from drug affectation and eventually declared as drug-cleared and drug-free.

Joining in online was the Baras LGU Core Team composed of Mayor Teves, Vice Mayor Rico Tating, MLGOO Salvador Vargas, Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Nestor Buena, Baras police chief PCapt. Denver Romero together with Drug Clearing Focal Person PCpl Jessica Triumfante, MHO Dr. Ariel Acompañado, MSWDO Catherine Balunsay represented by Maria Taway, and RHU Drug Test Facilitator Caridad Bautista.

Caramoran Mayor Glenda Aguilar also led the town’s team in participating in the deliberations.

Just last month, PDEA Catanduanes Provincial Officer IA V Roberto Sebastian, who spearheaded the activity, expressed optimism that Virac, Caramoran, Baras and Gigmoto would all be declared drug-cleared by 2024.

He said that the delay in the towns’ making it to the list is due to the failure of some barangays to complete the documentary requirements as well as the presence of drug personalities monitored by the police.

My warmest appreciation and gratitude to all those who sent greetings on my birthday last Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024, including those who gave gifts and joined the modest family celebration that night.

KNOW-IT-ALL COMPUTER. A computer salesman is trying to sell a customer a new computer that can answer absolutely any question. The customer is intrigued, but wants a demo before going any further.

The customer asks the computer where his mother is. After a few seconds, the computer responds, “Your mother is staying with her sister in Exeter.” The customer is amazed that the computer is right.

The salesman seizes the moment and makes the sale. As he is prepared to leave, the customer has another go on the computer and asks where his father is. It responds with, “Your father is in New York on a business trip.”

“Hold on a minute,” says the customer, “that’s rubbish. My father has been dead for two years.”

The computer hears this and immediately comes back with, “No, the man your mother married has been dead for two years. Your father is on a business trip in New York.”
