COMELEC signs up 2,650 new voters in Catanduanes

Turnout in the ongoing voter registration campaign of the Commission on Election (COMELEC) have tripled in the first three weeks of the year compared to a similar period in December 2022, the Office of the Provincial Election Supervisor reported last week.

In his report, Provincial Election Supervisor II Atty. Neil B. Canicula said that a total of 2,014 registrants signed up during the Jan. 3-26, 2023 registration period, compared to just 636 during Dec. 12-30, 2022, for a grand total of 2,650.

The total of registrants by town is as follows: Bagamanoc, 302; Baras, 236; Bato, 267; Caramoran, 116; Gigmoto, 45; Pandan, 173; Panganiban, 196; San Andres, 404; San Miguel, 217; Viga, 255; and Virac, 439.

It may be recalled that last Dec. 12, 2022, the COMELEC resumed voter registration in the province, with the OPES conducting the HORAN RAN (Register Anywhere Now) running event during the celebration of the Virac Town Fiesta to create awareness of the project piloted in different malls in Metro Manila.

The Register Anywhere Now project accepts applicants who are residents of different municipalities or cities anywhere in the Philippines, which will benefit residents of the provinces who are temporarily in the National Capital Region for work or studies.
