About 80 workers will be slashed from the job order personnel of the Virac municipal government this January 2023 with the implementation of the P55 increase in their daily wage rate.
This was confirmed by an LGU official who said that the funds allotted for the hiring of job order workers and contractual personnel for the current would not be enough to maintain the previous monthly complement for 2022.
Late last month, the Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) reportedly asked department heads to submit their respective list of job order personnel needed for their departments for 2023.
The extent of the job cuts will be known before the LGU rehires most of the casual employees this January, the source said.
Only the solid waste management and traffic enforcement sections will not be affected by the personnel reduction.
All JO workers and contractual personnel were considered laid off as of Dec. 31, 2022.
Last August 2022, the Sangguniang Bayan approved Municipal Ordinance No. 2022-06, which amended Section 2 of Municipal Ordinance No. 2019-16 that prescribed the wage rate and regulated the hiring of job order workers and contractual personnel in the LGU.
In recognizing the reasonable wage rate set by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board Region V, the Virac ordinance adjusted the wage rate of job order personnel from the previous minimum rate of P310.00 to a range of P365.00 up to P400.00, with the amount to be determined by the department or section head where the funding shall be charged, depending on the nature of work being rendered as required.
“The manner of incremental adjustment shall be subject to the availability of funds of the LGU and in accordance with the provisions of the Wage Order presently in effect,” the municipal council said.
In other municipalities, the daily wage rates for similar personnel range from P300 in Caramoran to P345 in Pandan and P385 in Bagamanoc.
In the provincial government, some job order and contractual personnel are paid as high as P900 per day depending upon the job performed.
