PSA to conduct surveys on wages, labor and employment this October

This October, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) will be conducting the joint survey operations for the 2022 Occupational Wages Survey (OWS) and the 2021/2022 Integrated Survey on Labor and Employment (ISLE).

With the second level training already completed last Sept. 12-15, the distribution and collection period will be on Oct. 3 to Nov. 15, 2022.

The OWS is a nationwide survey that delves on employment and wage rates (actual rates) of time-rated workers on a full-time basis in selected occupations in selected industries.

These data are most useful in wage and salary administration and wage determination in collective bargaining negotiations, the PSA said.

On the other hand, the ISLE is a nationwide establishment survey that aims to generate an integrated data set on employment of specific groups of workers, unionism and collective bargaining, occupational shortages and surpluses, training of workers, occupational safety and health practices, occupational injuries and diseases, and establishments and workers’ productivity during COVID-19 pandemic.

These data are inputs to studies on industry trends and practices and serve as bases for the formulation of policies on employment, conditions of work and industrial relations.

A total of 20 establishments for OWS and ISLE province-wide will be the survey sample, with the survey to use questionnaires in data collection but the establishments may opt to accomplish this online. One (1) statistical researcher will be involved in the data collection activity.

The PSA assures its respondents that all information collected from them shall be kept strictly confidential. Section 26 of Republic Act 10625 stipulates that individual data furnished by the respondent to statistical inquiries, surveys and censuses of the PSA shall be considered as privileged information and such shall be inadmissible as evidence in any proceeding.

The PSA may release data gathered from surveys and censuses only in the form of summaries or statistical tables, in which no reference to an individual, corporation, association, partnership, institution or business enterprise shall appear.
