EVEN WITHOUT GOVERNMENT SUPPORT, a team sent by the Catanduanes Cyclists United triumphed in the recent Vuelta de Caramoan 80-kilometer Mountain Bike Race in Camarines Sur, with two of them topping their respective categories. Backed by donations from islanders, the team traveled by motorized banca from San Andres to Caramoan and on their second day used as training the 180-km plus round trip from the town to Naga City Diversion road, passing thru a section dubbed as “Siko” that featured a 45-degree climb. The winning team is composed of (foreground, from left) Ronald Mendez – 5th place, John Adrian Cea – 6th place and Jhoman Magno – 8th place, all in the Men’s category; and, (background, from left), Mozart Valeza – Men’s 2nd runner-up, Ivan delos Santos – Juniors 2nd runner-up, Richard Panti – Juniors champion; Francesca Avila – Women’s champion, and Keith Andrei Panti – Men’s 7th place.
