PSA Catanduanes to conduct July 2022 LFS and 2022 APIS with rider survey on awareness on PCC and PCA

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) will conduct July 2022 Labor Force Survey (LFS) and 2022 Annual Poverty Indicators Survey (APIS) with rider survey on Awareness Survey on Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) and Philippine Competition Act (PCA).

In the pursuit of these surveys, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) initiated a 2nd Level Training on 20-24 June 2022 to provide instructions to seven (7) hired Statistical Researchers (SRs) and Provincial Focal Persons on how to carry out their duties and responsibilities during the data collection and supervision in their respective area of assignment.

Data collection will take place on 8-31 July 2022 in twenty-eight (28) sample barangays covering three hundred eighty-four (384) sample households in the province.

The Labor Force Survey (LFS) is a nationwide quarterly and monthly survey of households conducted to collect data on the population’s demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of the population. It provides up-to-date information on the country’s labor force and its characteristics, with the goal of developing a quantitative framework for the development of labor-market plans and policies.

Results from the April 2022 LFS shows that the employment rate in the country in April 2022 was estimated at 94.3 percent, translating about 45.63 million employed Filipinos.

This was higher compared to the reported employment rate at 91.3 percent in April 2021 or a year-on-year increase of about 2.36 million employed Filipinos from 43.27 million in April 2021.

The country’s unemployment rate has improved from the reported 8.7 percent a year ago to 5.7 percent in April 2022. It was lower by 1.38 million from the number of unemployed persons in April 2021.

The Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR) in April 2022 was likewise higher at 63.4 percent compared to the reported 63.2 percent in April last year.

Underemployed persons were reported at 6.40 million of the 45.63 million employed population, translating to an underemployment rate of 14.0 percent in April 2022.

Underemployment rate reported in April last year was higher at 17.2 percent.

In line with this, the 2022 Annual Poverty Indicators Survey (APIS) aims to gather data that can be used to generate non-income indicators related to poverty that will be modified to assess and monitor the poverty situation in the country.

The information collected will also be utilized to estimates the Multi-dimensional Poverty Index (MPI).

Awareness Survey on Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) and Philippine Competition Act (PCA) will be the rider surveys for this July 2022 LFS round.

The SRs are reminded to strictly observe proper health protocols in dealing with respondents. Moreover, the PSA encourages everyone especially the sample households, to support and cooperate in the data collection.

The authority and mandate of the PSA to conduct the survey emanate from RA 10625. Like any other surveys undertaken by the PSA, the data to be gathered in the said survey are for statistical purposes only and will be published in summary forms. Information obtained from the respondents are held STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL and are not used for investigation, taxation, and law enforcement purposes and are not to be divulged to any person except authorized PSA personnel acting in the performance of their duties.
