ILLEGAL SMALL-SCALE MINING has been going on in several mountainous areas along rivers and creeks in Catanduanes for some time now, according to several sources, following the police’s arrest of several suspected gold panners in Virac and Viga. The miners use crude tools like crowbars to pry soil and rock along river banks in search of gold.
