DOE warns power gencos for poor service

Last Monday, the Department of Energy announced  that it will be issuing show cause orders to power generation companies that repeatedly fail to deliver their expected output.

Energy Secretary Sharon Garin said that the power firms could face blacklisting and cancellation of permits for poor service.

While she declined to identify the generation companies, she said that 164 gencos are connected to the main power grid while another 11 are servicing off-grid areas, mainly small or remote islands.

There is a strong possibility that SUWECO could be in the hit list as a DOE team was here  a few months ago to check on its performance.

In fact, he now holds one of the most coveted seats in Congress – that of a member of the powerful Commission on Appointments (CA) responsible for vetting and approving the appointment of Cabinet members and other officials of Cabinet rank.

Add to this the TGP solon’s being one of the House Deputy Majority Leaders, the vice chairperson of the Committee on Appropriations and president of the Partylist Coalition Foundation, Inc. (PCFI), a bloc of about 63 lawmakers who have the collective capability of swinging the crucial vote on key measures.

While the 2028 campaign is about a year and a half away, Teves is nonetheless one of the key players voters should watch out for by this time next year.
