Revitalized police campaign leads to arrest of 9 CamSur illegal fishers

Nine suspected illegal fishermen from mainland were apprehended by the local police in the territorial waters of Caramoran town last week as the authorities ramped up its campaign against the exploitation of marine resources.

Personnel of the Caramoran police station led by PMSg. Ryan Bien was on seaborne patrol when they caught the suspects in the act of using a fine mesh net in violation of existing fishery law, rules and regulations.

Nabbed at 4:14 PM of July 12, 2025 off sitio Palumbanes in barangay Toytoy were Philip Hufancia Azaña, Freddie Palaya delos Santos, 41, Jose Agaya Santillan, 34, Niel Pasacay Pantila, 19, Albert Sanglay Pabia, 34, Joey Singson Hufancia, 42, Jhon Francis Marto Bibat, 22, Lardie Pabia Baynosa, and Arisjake Cortiz Ramos, 37, all residents of San Vicente, Caramoan, Camarines Sur.

The police confiscated from their possession about two kilos of squis, two pieces of spearfish, a motorized banca with engine, three bundles of fish nets, 11 pairs of improvised diving fins, a wooden paddle, five improvised goggles, three styro boxes, and two bolos.

The suspects will be charged with violation of Section 93 of Republic Act 8550 or the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998, as amended by RA 10654 or an Act to Prevent, Deter and Eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing.
