Following the schools division’s excellent performance at the regional level, seven campus journalists from Catanduanes are set to vie for the gold at the 2025 National Schools Press Conference (NSPC).
Advancing to the final contest in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur are Macey Nicolet B. Arcilla in Newswriting English – Elementary; Jeremiah R. Madayag in Sci-tech Writing English – Elementary; Justin Beaver R. Cabrera in Sports Writing Filipino – Secondary; Jian Franco V. Rubio in Photojournalism English – Secondary; and the Collaborative Publishing English – Elementary team: GioLuis Alistair M. Vargas, Carl Jacob A. Tabios, Hailey Allushta Vargas, Kendralyn Matienzo, Celine A. Ku, Zeith Kyle Phoebus Tablizo, and Jasmine I. Zuniega.
By topping their respective individual and team contests, they helped Team Catanduanes finish 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up in the secondary and elementary levels of the Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) held last Jan. 28-31, 2025 at Sorsogon City.
The island division also placed 2nd runner-up overall in the school paper competition, with Justin Beaver Cabrera of Catanduanes National High School capturing the Outstanding Campus Journalist award while Kate Anne G. Pabalate of San Andres Central School finished as 3rd runner-up in the elementary level.

Chavez (CNHS); and 5th Best Reporter, TV Broadcasting English – Sofia Beatriz Camano (CNHS).
In the Best School Papers contest for secondary schools, CNHS’s The Synchronizer and Caramoran RDHS’ The Courier placed 7th and 10th overall, respectively, in the English category while CRDHS’ Ang Rimora and CNHS’ Ang Kampilan finished 2nd and 5th in the Filipino category.
In the elementary level, it was Tinago ES’ Ang Pithaya which was the top winner from Catanduanes as it ended up as the 2nd Best School Paper in the Bicol region.
