Resident dead in violent incidents in San Andres

San Andres police authorities arrested an ACC merchandizer and his brother for fatally stabbing a 28-year-old jobless man during a drinking spree in barangay Alibuag last week.

Merchandizer Jovie Binal Somido, 21, and his jobless brother Marco, 18, both of Batong Paloway, were placed into police custody at 6 AM of Dec. 11, 2024, about six hours after the incident in barangay Comagaycay that led to the death of Marvin Sombillo Romero, 28, a resident of the barangay.

The police attributed the crime to “uncontrolled anger due to intoxication of liquor.”

Investigation disclosed that on or about 11:30 AM of Dec. 10, Romero was with his friend Mark Andrew Soneja having a drinking spree when Jovie Somido arrived and without apparent reason punched the victim on the upper portion of his head.

Immediately after that, with two unidentified male companions, Marco Somido used an “asyab” (sickle) to stab Romero at the back.

The bleeding victim was brought to the Juan M. Alberto Memorial District Hospital where he was declared dead due to hypovolemic shock at 12:40 AM of Dec. 11 by attending physician Dr. Francis Charles Andaya.

The police learned of the incident from a concerned citizen who called the station some 13 minutes after the stabbing. Law enforcers led by PCpl. Ely O. Panti were dispatched to the scene.

Intelligence operatives who gathered information later brought a witness, Carlo Solero, to the station, prompting a hot pursuit operation led to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the sickle used in the crime.

The incident occurred just 24 hours after a heated argument between drinking partners in Catagbacan led to a hacking.

Authorities said that both the suspect, Allan Zuniega Somido, 43, a fishpond caretaker, and the victim, Junia Sontillano Superal, 43, were having a drinking session at about 10:45 PM of Dec. 9 when the quarrel broke out between the two men who then engaged in a fistfight that was later pacified.

Somido was escorted home by his brother but the still enraged suspect went back armed with a bolo, chasing the victim and striking him at the back.

Superal managed to wrestle the bladed weapon away from the suspect and retaliated, inflicting multiple hack wounds on Somido.

Both of them were brought to the JMA Memorial District Hospital for treatment.
