An overloaded tricycle driven by a minor overturned and led to injuries to three passengers in Caramoran town last week while reckless driving caused another accident in San Miguel town.
In San Miguel, 18-year-old Marcos Manlangit Ralla, 18, an ALS student from San Marcos but temporarily residing in Obo, was driving a Suzuki Smash 115 motorcycle along the national road at Katipunan at 11 AM of Sept. 6 when he tried to cross the highway.
His reckless maneuver resulted to a collision with the Suzuki Smash 125 driven by ARDCI collector Maefre Tabilin de Leon, 39, a resident of Gogon Centro, Virac, who was heading towards Paraiso.
Due to injuries sustained during the smash-up, de Leon was taken to the San Miguel Rural Health Unit for immediate medical attention and later transferred to the Eastern Bicol Medical Center.
The suspect, who failed to present a driver’s license, was brought to the police station along with his motorcycle, which was found to have no license plate or OR/CR documents.
Two days later in Maui, Caramoran, a 14-year-old Grade 9 student from Sabangan was driving a Honda TMX 155 tricycle at 10:30 AM of Sept. 8, 2024 towards the poblacion when he lost control of the vehicle at a curved portion of the highway, causing it to overturn.
While the minor was unhurt, three of his passengers – Angela Evangelista, 18, of Panique, Ramon del Agua, 75, and Andrea Vanessa del Agua, 11 – were injured, with Evangelista’s injuries serious enough to require hospitalization at the Caramoran Municipal Hospital in Datag West.
The report said Evangelista was later referred by Dr. Perlasita Buendia for further treatment in EBMC in Virac due to fractured bones in both of her knees.
Seven other passengers, ranging in age from 15 to 18 and all from Panique, escaped unharmed.
Concerned residents and PNP personnel from the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company 3rd Platoon in Sabloyon responded to the accident scene.
