Two incidents of frustrated parricide, sparked by arguments between father and son, were reported recently in the towns of Virac and Viga.
Last Aug. 24, 2024 in Rawis, Virac at about 9:30 PM, welder Marlon Romero, 43, was eating in their residence when his father, painter Clemente Romero Jr., 62m arrived drunk and went wild, smashing various objects in the house.
According to his mother Lucia and brother Mark Lester, Marlon confronted his father until the argument escalated into a physical altercation.
Clemente grabbed a knife and attacked his own son, promoting Lucia and their other son to rush outside the house to call for help.
When they returned together with neighbors, they found both Clemente and Marlon bleeding and lying on the ground inside the kitchen.
Despite sustaining five stab wounds on the lower abdomen, Marlon managed to wrest the knife from his father and stabbed the latter once in the upper part of his chest.
Both were taken to the Eastern Bicol Medical Hospital for treatment. Marlon was released from confinement several days later while his father remains in serious condition.
Four days earlier, on Aug. 20 at noon, a similar incident was reported in San Jose, Viga.
Construction worker Ronnie Usero, 27, was resting on a hammock at his brother’s house when his father, laborer Roberto Usero, 60, arrived under the influence of liquor and asked him why he (Ronnie) ate the food at their house.
A quarrel erupted between the two men, with Roberto deciding to go home after threatening to go back and stab Ronnie.
After some time, the father returned armed with a kitchen knife and stabbed his son on the left portion of his chest.
The victim’s brother, Roberto Jr., managed to pacify the suspect and then rushed the victim to the Viga district hospital.
The suspect voluntarily surrendered himself and the knife to the Viga police station.
