Over the past two months, Cat Island Express, a new public transportation service, has commenced operations in our province. This development has understandably raised concerns among local tricycle drivers and operators about potential impacts on their income.
Initially, my family and I chose not to respond, hoping the truth would prevail. However, as these unfounded allegations continue to spread across various barangays, we feel compelled to clarify the situation.
Firstly, my family neither owns nor has involvement in any way with Cat Island Express. It is not registered under our names or associated with any of our businesses.
Secondly, Cat Island Express is a legitimate operation, sanctioned and authorized by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB). In this regard, we support a lawful and harmonious coexistence between this new bus line and TODA, in line with Philippine laws. We also support the ongoing discussions and resolutions enforced by different LGUs to establish a balanced coexistence between the two.
Lastly, we encourage the public to consider the purpose of Cat Island Express: to provide an affordable transportation alternative for commuters grappling with high prices and inflation. We hope for a balanced understanding of the situation and appreciate your attention to these clarifications.
For many years, we have dedicated our efforts to supporting various TODAs, and it has never been our intention to compromise their existence or livelihood. We deeply appreciate and understand your concerns. Rest assured that we will continuously implement programs that will prioritize the welfare of tricycle drivers and operators, while also considering the best interest of the riding public.
On the other hand, we strongly urge Cat Island Express to cooperate and engage in open and transparent dialogue with our tricycle drivers to foster understanding and find mutually beneficial solutions. The new bus line, we believe, should take the lead in educating the public about the benefits of having diverse transportation options. This can help in creating a balanced demand for both buses and tricycles.
Let us not be swayed by propaganda aimed at tarnishing our reputation for the political gain of certain individuals in the island. Our commitment to serving Catandunganons remains steadfast and unwavering.
Thank you, and may we all have a meaningful Christmas!
